Assessing Risk and Supporting Families Caring for Teenagers

Trainer - Natalia Osborne-Pearce

Over the past decade, there has been a significant increase in the number of teenagers entering the care system in Wales. According to the Family Justice Data Partnership, adolescents aged 14-15 represent the largest group of new entrants each year.

Unfortunately, when it comes to matching foster placements, teenagers are often overlooked in favour of younger children, due to the misconception that caring for them is more challenging. As a result, many of our most traumatised young people miss out on the crucial family support they need during a critical time in their lives.

This workshop will emphasise the benefits of caring for teenagers, dispel common myths, provide guidance on assessing risks, and support families in caring for adolescents.
