Staying Connected Through Trauma: Applying Polyvagal Theory for Nervous System Regulation

Trainer Consultant – Amy Shepherd

In this workshop we’ll explore the core principles of Polyvagal Theory, a powerful framework for understanding how our nervous system shapes behaviour, connection, and emotional safety.

Through accessible theory, real-life examples, and reflective exercises, you’ll gain practical strategies to ‘tend and befriend’ the nervous system—supporting self-regulation, co-regulation, and connection in everyday interactions.

Whether you’re working with children, adults, or families, this workshop will enhance your confidence in recognising nervous system states and responding in ways that promote safety, trust, and healing.

Audience

Social workers, psychologists, foster carers, adopters, and others supporting children and young people affected by trauma.
