Supervising Social Worker – Supervisory and Support Responsibilities

Trainer – Tracy Bowen

This Modular training programme has been developed to support the knowledge and skills required by the Supervising Social Worker. It provides a comprehensive overview that can equip social workers with the techniques needed to perform this complex role. It supports a flexible approach to learning offering participants the opportunity to tailor their learning experience to their specific needs. Participants can choose to attend any combination of the four modules. This allows for a more customised experience based on the needs of the fostering service and individual practitioners. Each module is delivered within and anti-discriminatory framework with a focus on the lived experiences of children looked after and feedback from foster carers.

Including but not limited to:

  • Definitions, Legal and Regulatory Frameworks.
  • Activities and tasks undertaken by the SSW.
  • Regulatory and good practice responsibilities e.g., unannounced visits, medical and safeguarding checks, health, and safety, record keeping.
  • The Supervision Session, its structure, and functions.
  • Relationship building and the balance between support and management functions of the role.
  • Supervision models, tips, and techniques.
  • Reflective practice and learning from research and child practice reviews.
  • The views of foster carers.
  • Fostering wellbeing plans.
