In the past decade, there has been a notable increase in teenagers entering Wales’s care system. According to Family Justice Data Partnership, Adolescents aged 14-15 are the most likely to enter care – making up the largest proportion of new entrants each year. When matching to foster carers, teenagers are often overlooked in favour of younger children due to the misconception that caring for them is more challenging. Many of our most traumatised and vulnerable young people miss out on the opportunity of essential family support during a critical time in their lives. This workshop strongly emphasises the benefits of caring for teenagers, dispelling myths and offers effective solutions for families to provide the necessary care for adolescents.
