Trainer - Amy Shepherd
Are you a long-term foster carer, whether kinship/connected or mainstream/general, contemplating Special Guardianship? Our comprehensive workshop is tailored just for you!
Learn everything you need to know about Special Guardianship Orders (SGOs) and determine if becoming a Special Guardian is the right step for you and the children in your care. By attending, you’ll:
• Understand Key Differences: Discover what changes if you transition from foster carer to special guardian with a focus on support, decision making, rights and responsibilities as a special guardian
• Navigate the Assessment Process: Gain a clear understanding of the assessment requirements
• Get Informed: Learn about key messages from research with special guardians and equip yourself with essential questions to ask your local authority
• Plan for the Future: Reflect on your circumstances, what may impact your future support needs and feel empowered to participate in support planning
• Focus on the Children: Reflect on the needs of the children you care for and how an SGO might affect them
• Ask questions: Bring any questions you have about special guardianship orders
• Signposting: Find out where you can go for further support and information.
The trainer will create a supportive environment, you will not be ‘put on the spot’ and you will not be asked to participate in any breakout rooms.
